NAME: Leksa kom Trikru aka Lexa
CANON: The 100
AGE: 21-22
CANON POINT: Just before she died in 3x07

HISTORY: Wiki

PERSONALITY: Lexa was born a Nightblood and because of that, her fate was already sealed from the first moment she drew breath. She immediately had to start training once she could physically handle it and stood out in her group due to her natural skill and determination. She knew that one day she would have to fight in the conclave and kill the other Nightbloods to ascend. All of her training was about becoming not only the best warrior but the best leader of her people.

At her core she is a conscientious and dutiful woman, putting the needs of her people before anything else. While she changed her mind on some of the principles of the Grounders, it still has always been framed as what she thinks is best for them. She is required to see the big picture at all times, unable to allow herself selfishness or short-sighted desires for vengeance. When her lover Costia was tortured and murdered just to get to her, she still was able to make peace with the Ice Nation because it was the right thing to do. Unifying all the clans was more important than her personal heartbreak. But that experience made her cut off her emotions, having seen the proof of how love can be a weakness used against her.

That is not to say that Lexa lacks love, it was just romantic love she avoided. She loves her people and so all of her focus went into that. Lexa is level-headed and very calm. She also does not silence her mentors or her enemies; she allows them to speak their peace before deciding for herself. She is not someone who thinks only her opinion has value. That being said, she still is the commander and has to make the decisions with that knowledge. She is very self-aware and wise about her own position in her society and the pressure on her is something she has carried for her entire life.

While Lexa can be honorable, she does not let honor completely dictate her choices. She will kick a messenger out a window or murder a queen with a spear if it goes to her end goals. She betrayed Clarke and her people in exchange for saving her own people and not sending more of them to die with the Mountain Men. While she came to regret the results of this decision for Clarke's mental health, she still thought she did the best at the time and for good reasons. But her choice was cold and lacking in empathy for anyone outside of the Grounders. She knew doing this would lead to Clarke and her people most likely being wiped out or forced into a horrific situation, and she accepted that. Better them than her own.

Lexa believes in sacrifice as a leader. It is why she warmed up to Kane when she first met him and eventually to Clarke too. She is also very capable of being a diplomatic force of nature. Lexa accomplished the incredible uniting of all twelve clans together and became commander of them all because of it. She could see in the big picture that murdering one another was not good for them, that a set of rules and rituals could make them stronger together.

In the end this was what led her to listen to Clarke and see a different point of view. It is not that she changed her mind entirely for her, but instead saw that the parts of her society that seemed impossible to change had to be pushed in order for more growth. While blood must have blood was integral to the Grounders, it also meant they were stagnant and incapable of moving on to a higher calling and mindset. She believed changing that was the next step from her unification of the clans.

This is only a recent change though, to be fair. A reframing of her mind that fits in with her code. Lexa otherwise is a ruthless killer and a firm believer that strength through violence is the only thing that keeps her in her position. She cannot appear weak and she rationalizes all of the times she seems to be weak to turn it to her favor. She does not allow anyone to fight on her behalf, she must be strong and worth following. Lexa has an overpowering survival instinct and this can lead her to fight harder or more dirty with her back against the wall. She was ready to die when it was her time but fought it before then. Lexa also has the arrogance of someone who was born to rule and rose to her position feeling that it was righteous. It means she usually thinks she is right and makes decisions based on her own belief, and it is difficult for her not to think her way is the only way. That certainty of purpose helped get her where she was, but it also made her short-sighted in terms of what she perceives and wants.

Her training as a vicious warrior and as someone told to purge herself of emotions is not a healthy way of living. It kept her closed off to living more than surviving. Her last words to Clarke are an acceptance of that and it tragically only came at the end of her life. However, this is also the woman who allowed hundreds of her people to die in an attack she could have prevented but chose not to as the big picture of defeating the Mountain Men meant not showing their hand about having a spy. So she let them die as a "sacrifice," one she chose for them. She also forced Clarke to do the same when she wanted to save them.

She tried to force her own ideals on Clarke; that sacrifice is necessary, that purging all emotion is the only way to survive, that violence is strength. She has been raised not only in the Grounder culture but now enforces the parts of her culture that are toxic and cruel. She made big strides in attempting to keep the peace and push for change, but at her heart she was still steeped in the brainwashing of tradition and survival at all costs. While she started to make progress, it is still a strong part of who she is. She did not simply change overnight and it does require work to change. She could backslide easily with her back against the wall, and it is an everyday struggle to stick to a change in essential morals. Not to mention that element of her that is arrogant and self-righteous and wants to trust her own judgment before any others.

Lexa presents herself as poised, powerful, confident, and also pensive. She is not hot-headed. She thinks through her actions and her decisions, although she is ready for a snap judgment at any time if is something she must do. Even when it appears to be an impulse to murder someone, example: the messenger from the Ice Clan, it is a strategic choice to make people see she is not someone to be trifled with. She can come off as very cold and calculated too, as she feels she must be for her people to know she will make wise decisions and not emotional ones. On the inside, however, Lexa is emotional and she is capable of great love and vulnerability. She cannot break from her training. Doing so would make her people vulnerable as well.

Her deep love for Clarke comes from a variety of reasons, such as having someone as responsible and dedicated as her, and how Clarke managed to inspire her. She has always been the inspiration, but someone shook her to her core. Made her question herself and the way things have always been. Lexa has loved before and it led her to shut herself down, but this is the time when she stayed open. Part of her growth can also be seen in how Lexa executed her advisor Gustus when he betrayed her because even though she cared for him a great deal, she knew that it would show weakness to spare him for her feelings. Yet later on when Titus shot her, she did not plan on telling anyone what happened or call on anyone to arrest him. She was finally allowing herself to give forgiveness before she died.

It should be noted that the Grounders are not very technologically savvy, and so they have a great deal of ritual and religion surrounding them. Including the place of Nightbloods and the conclave. The commanders put ALIE 2.0 into the back of their neck as part of their ascending, and it bonds to them permanently until death. Lexa occasionally dreams of past commanders and she sees these as dreams and visions, not understanding the technology as being a place that literally stores memories and people within it. She can also meditate to reach them if she wishes. She can absorb their wisdom. She does believe that after death she goes to an afterlife, not understanding that the City of Light is truly a place, and she does live on there. She shows up for people who have the Flame and exists still within it. She knew death was not the end for her.

Because of her position in her society and her needing to keep a distance between herself and others emotionally, she truly does not understand how to make friends or connections outside of her symbolic status with her people. She does not know how to be a person instead of a leader and what it is like to be nothing more than Lexa of the Trikru. It will be interesting to see how she reconciles this unused part of herself for the first time.

CRAU: N/A

SPECIES: Human (with an AI in her neck)

APPEARANCE: Here

SKILLS: Lexa has been training since childhood to be a killing machine. She is an expert combatant both in terms of hand-to-hand and with blades of all kinds. She can throw a spear or a knife with lethal accuracy. She is very strong, agile, and has excellent endurance from a lifetime of growing muscle and long hours of training. She is a notable military strategist and natural leader of her tribe. She is resistant to radiation due to her Nightblood. Lexa is calm and composed during emergency situations and keeps a cool head in battle. She is skilled at guerilla warfare and cleverly using the area around a fight to win. Lexa is an impressive diplomat, being able to bring all the clans together in a way no one was ever able to do before. She understands people in a very pragmatic way and how to sway them to her mentality.

Lexa has an AI in her neck that affects her mind and body, as mentioned above. It contains within it the memories and experience of Commanders before her. She sometimes has conversations with them in her dreams, and if she meditates she can also reach them for advice. It takes concentrated effort on her part.

NEW POWER: Pyrokinesis/Fire manipulation. The ability to create, manipulate, and use heat and fire. At its lowest she will start out only able to generate a tiny flame within her palm. In time with focus and effort she can make this flame larger and larger until she can then learn to manipulate or throw it at others.

POWER REASONING: It is tied to her possession of the Flame (the AI mentioned above) as all Commanders are. While this does not mean she actively has fire powers of her own, the importance of the Flame as a concept to her means it connects really well with having literal flames as her source of power. Lexa also rarely loses her temper so having her emotions run hot quite literally will be something she has to learn how to control.
